Friends of Kirkandrews-on-Esk Church

From Romans to railways

The Parish is steeped in  history through many centuries. Castra Exploratum at Netherby, The Battle of Arderydd, Liddle Strength, The Border reivers and the Debatable Lands, Georgian Fish wars,

The World War I Munitions Factory and the building and closing down of the Waverley line

Italianate icon

Standing in its isolated position and its stark classical architecture combined with the ornate baroque interior make the church as unique as it is precious.

Sandstone soliloquy

The soft red sandstone graves with their fading, often indecipherable lettering emphasise the mortality of mankind.

Politics to plants

In spite of its location, Kirkandrews has produced some notable people and suffered its share of losses in the two World Wars.
